IMPORTANCE OF AUM

Om

AUM – is the single-syllabled most powerful mantra among the mantras. The sacred mantra AUM is called pranava mantra. Upanishad says “Aum Iti Ek Akshara
Brahman” – AUM the one syllable is Brahman. The Holy Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara and trigunas – Satva, Rajas and Thamas are represented in the
single syllable AUM. The Akaram of Aum represents Brahma, Ukaram represents Vishnu and Makaram represents Maheshwara. The Akaram, Ukaram, and Makaram in AUM are universal sounds and are thus called Bija (seed) of all words.

Also, A symbolize speech, U symbolize mind and M symbolize breath. AUM is such a powerful mantra that reciting and meditating upon “AUM” liberates the
sadhaka from the bondage of body, mind, intellect and ego and from births and rebirths. AUM is considered as “Shabda Brahman – Universal sound” and can be
known with the organs of perception, organs of action, mind, intelligence and consciousness. Understanding the power of AUM and repeatedly reciting (japa)
and/OR meditating AUM helps a sadhaka (spiritual seeker) to clear out all obstacles in his path to realize self, the Brahman.
